Google Docs/Dreamweaver Link Project

Part One   Part Two   Part Three

The goal of this assignment is to create a web page in Google Docs that contains all of the links you bookmarked in the Web Favorites Project in Firefox. This page will later be imported into Dreamweaver, and will be part of your personal website.

Read ALL of the directions before you begin. Re-read all of the directions before you ask questions about what to do.

Part One

  • Navigate to the Google Docs home page from your Gmail home page.
  • Create a new page (new>document), and call it firstname_lastname_links
    • mr_oconnell_links
  • Type your first and last name at the top of the page
  • Type Links below your name
  • Type (or copy and paste) the name of each of your folders from your Firefox Bookmarks.
  • Below each folder name, type in the name of the website for each of the links.
  • Select the name of the website
  • Click the word link in the Google Docs toolbar
  • Copy and paste the web address (also called a URL) into the box next to the letters URL
    • Power Tip:
      • You can open Organize Bookmarks in Firefox, and select multiple links.
      • Then, you can copy the links, and paste them into your Google Docs Link Page.
      • The only problem is that they come out in a straight line, and so you have to click after each one and hit Enter on your keyboard.
  • Save your document
  • Test your link
  • Continue doing this until you have transferred all of your links from Firefox.
  • You're done with Part One

Part Two

  • Navigate to the Google Docs home page from your Gmail home page.
  • Open your Google Docs Link Page. It should be named:
    • firstname_lastname_links
  • Open Dreamweaver.
  • Open your Links page from your new Dreamweaver Website (first_last_website_1).
  • Copy and paste the links you created into your Links page.
  • Save your document (ctrl+s), hit f12, and then test your links.
  • Go back to Dreamweaver and open your Page Properties
    • Modify>Page Properties -or- ctrl+j
  • Click on Links on the left hand side of the window
  • Find different colors that work with your color scheme for the following four items:
    • Link Color
    • Visited Links
    • Rollover
    • Active
  • Click Apply as you go along to test the Link Color. You won't be able to see the remaining colors until you test your page.
  • When you have finished, click Okay.
  • Save your document (ctrl+s), hit f12, and then test your new colors.
    • Link Color- the color of any text that contains a link when you first preview the page.
    • Visited Links-the color of the link after you have visited the linked page.
    • Rollover-the color of the link as your mouse moves over it.
    • Active-the color of the link the moment you click it.
  • Open Page Properties to edit and refine your color choices. When you are finished coming up with the perfect colors for your site, save your work, and you're done with Part Two.

Part Three

  • Open your Links page from your new Dreamweaver Website (first_last_website_1).
  • Open Page Properties
    • Modify>Page Properties -or- ctrl+j
  • Click on Links on the left hand side of the window
  • Write down the combination of six letters and numbers for each of the following colors. Make sure you include the number sign (e.g. #990000):
    • Link Color
    • Visited Links
    • Rollover
    • Active
  • Open the rest of your pages
  • For each page, open Page Properties
    • Modify>Page Properties -or- ctrl+j
  • Click on Links on the left hand side of the window
  • Type in the combination of six letters and numbers for each of the following colors. Make sure you include the number sign (e.g. #990000):
    • Link Color
    • Visited Links
    • Rollover
    • Active
  • Save each page.
  • You're done with Part Three.
